Every part works together.

This is a simplified cross-section of a typical linear motion assembly. Each component — bearing blocks, end caps, couplings, seals, housings — dimensioned and machined in the same workshop, by the same team, dimensioned to fit from the start.

Lead Screw and Nuts

The heart of the system. We machine ACME and trapezoidal lead screws to your specified pitch, length, and material. ACME and trapezoidal profiles behave differently under axial load, and bronze nut selection affects friction coefficient, lubrication interval, and replacement schedule in ways that matter in industrial duty cycles.

For applications demanding higher efficiency or sustained operation under heavy loads, we also machine diamond-profile screws — a premium thread form that reduces friction and heat generation.

Couplings

Misalignment at the drive coupling leads to runout. A coupling bored slightly off, or selected without accounting for both shaft diameters, introduces runout before the screw has turned a single revolution. The interface between motor shaft and lead screw end sets the runout characteristics of the entire assembly.

Bore diameter, keyway geometry, and concentricity tolerance at this joint establish the upper limit on positional accuracy — error introduced at this point cannot be corrected further downstream.

Bearing Supports

The fixed and floating end supports locate the screw both axially and radially — and directly determine shaft deflection under load. A housing bore of poor fit compromises bearing preload and accelerates wear across the whole assembly.

Bore tolerance at the bearing seat is the critical variable: too loose, and the bearing migrates under cyclic loading; too tight, and it runs at elevated temperature. We machine bearing supports ensuring the fit is optimized for an efficient run.

End Blocks and Seals

Contamination at the screw-nut interface is among the most common causes of premature wear in lead screw assemblies operating in industrial environments. Labyrinth seal geometry controls the ingress path for particulates and moisture without introducing the friction drag of contact seals — a meaningful consideration in back-driven or low-torque applications where parasitic losses matter. We machine these matched components while ensuring dimensionally consistent seal geometry.
